[There's a ~~cake~~ girl in the rain. It's not pouring just yet, but it can't be denied that there's a steady fall of precipitation.

But given the fact that Lili is from the lands of the Water Tribe, she actually doesn't seem to be too bothered by this. She's walking along at a casual pace, observing her surroundings cooly, and otherwise not seeming to care enough to pick up her pace and run to find shelter.

If you're carrying around an umbrella, she might give a bit of a judgmental glance. Tourist.

That said, a bad attitude isn't going to be much help to her in about 0.7 seconds when a carriage comes rushing by and isn't it funny how a puddle can suddenly becOME A TIDAL WAVE.]

Ah....!!

[There is now a surprised, soaked, dripping wet girl in the rain.

You should laugh at her for judging your umbrella.]

[ B ; excuse me? ]

Could I bother you for a moment?

[WHAT'S THAT -- oh it's just a tap on your shoulder. Well regardless, your quiet time is being ruined! Or maybe it really is just a demure girl asking for the time or something.]

Have you seen two women around here? One of them has short, black hair and is rather quiet and strict whereas the other.... I suppose you could call her flighty? They're my attendants.

["It's quite a problem. They seem to have lost me."

She pauses. And then she adds-]

By the by, would you happen to know anything about narcotics being sold around this area?

[What.]

[ C ; who let the dogs out ]

[Today Lili is playing the role of one (1) Damsel in Distress.

Or perhaps one (1) Cat Stuck in a Tree.

As is, it appears as though she has become the prey of some rather aggressive dogs with her bodyguards nowhere to be seen. That's a bit of a problem. She's not on too high of a branch but apparently she really couldn't find any other choice besides climbing up a tree in order to get away. (It wasn't graceful. She nearly fell a couple of times just trying to get up.)

But now that she's up there, she seems to have found her bravado again, if only to bark right back--]

Heel! Sit! Ugh, how poorly trained are you?!

[Someone help her pride.]

You should say that first next time. The line between mercenaries and assassins can be easily mistaken. [which is more or less what she happened to do

But she sighs then and begins to dig through the bag at her side--]

Then you seek payment, yes?

[He clicks his tongue, as he blinks.]

Well, if you want... I mean, I didn't go into this thinking, 'Hey, let's help this lady out and maybe she'll pay me for it!'

So you're one of those types....

[... Yes, it sounds dismissive but at least it doesn't sound mean or judgmental. Lili can't help her begrudging respect for people who use their talents to help others for free.

But she's not gonna say that out loud.

Rather, she fishes out a piece of jewelry from her bag -- a necklace made of gold and studded with gems. It could easily sell for a rather impressive amount.

Carelessly, she offers it to him.]

Here, take this.

I am indeed!

[He doesn't sound ashamed of it, despite her dismissive tone.

Though when she holds out the necklace, he snaps, before blinking a few times. For a moment, he's silent, before he blurts out the first thing that comes to mind:]

R-Really?

[Here's the part where it's obvious she has absolutely zero concept of money:]

Yes. Did I stutter?

[JUST GONNA GIVE IT AWAY.]

N... o... but y'know, not to turn down wealth, but I think that's worth more than what my help was!

What? Now are you underselling the worth of your assistance? Make up your mind.

[ok no she's just being difficult, JUST TAKE IT]

Okay, okay, I'll take it! This should get me a few meals...

[And true to his word, he takes the necklace, pocketing it in his bag. Then, he hums thoughtfully, before he grins.]

Could I ask for one more reward, though?

[Not the most dignified response ever.]

Oh, it was great! But there's just one more thing I'd like to request, to be frank.

[He pauses, and—wait for it...]

The honour of seeing you smile!

[ . . . . . . ]

Are you serious? Stop wasting my time.

[That said, her cheeks are a little pink -- who does this guy think he is?!]

[His shoulders sag as he lets out a sigh (it may sound a tad overdramatic).]

[Well, he supposes it doesn't really matter—even if she had smiled, he wouldn't really have been able to see it. It was the more the thought that counted, but an effort was made and he expressed the sentiment, so that's good, right?]

I didn't think it was a waste of time at all! I mean... yeah... it would've been nice?

[How embarrassing can one person be.... and Lili just gives a soft 'hmph'.]

You're not very convincing. It's not as if a smile would be of any value.

Of course it is! Being happy and seeing others happy is worth a lot more than any meal, y'know?

[ . . . . it's a sweet thought but--]

Hmm... well, not as much as I used to!

[Hunger has been a very real problem for him in the past, and Lili... probably doesn't want to know the lengths he's had to go to in order to survive through it.]

S'all good, though! Kind of. Even if I don't always have stuff to trade for food or can't find people to trade with, I've gotten good at hunting and foraging over the years! As long as it's not winter, I can scrounge up enough to be okay or at least only "pretty hungry" and not starve, so don't worry 'bout it! I haven't starved to death yet!

... Obviously!

The surprise on her face is obvious because considering the fact that food just tends to make itself available to her when she's at home, she's never had to deal extensively with hunger. If you don't have enough to trade with then he resorts to hunting? what???

Uh... thanks? I mean, thinking about it, I've never actually met someone who isn't, like, poor, so I don't have anything to compare myself to... but y'know, people in general are pretty resilient!

[ . . . in truth, she's not sure how she would fare in such conditions. Sure, she'd tough it out as best as she could but... hunting? It all seems so very beyond her.

Regardless she's just going to shake her head at that and let the comment rest. Instead, she's going to dig through her bag and pull out a silver bracelet this time, a sapphire gemstone sitting in the middle of it.

She's going to offer that to him too.]

See to it that you don't starve anymore.

[He snaps his fingers, before his eyes widen in surprise.]

Uhhh...

[He closes his mouth and then opens it again as if to say something, but the only thing that occurs to him is another:]

... Ummm...

[ . . . . . . he's not taking it.

Well?! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth -- not that I'm comparable to a horse, ugh.

... I've got no clue what that means, but I'm guessing you want me to take it?
