but to baren's credit he's shoved off very easily, remarkably obedient for 0.2 seconds when it counts. he doesn't even bother to be annoyed as he's pulling his pants up and watching her rush off to her phone, eavesdropping only because if it's an emergency he's probably gonna just toss his keys at her to take his car—

but it's not so he can keep pretending that he wasn't paying attention at all. it's not really his business.

so he goes back to making two omelettes and flipping through news articles on his phone like he's a 60 year old man in a millenial's body, doing the equivalent of reading the morning paper.

however long it takes for her to be done with her call, he turns an omelette over and yawns]

[ The words he wants her to say are ones she wants to say, too, ones that she doesn't think she should say, for they don't match up with the image she wants to portray. The next words he wants her to say are words she could say but would never sincerely mean.

Go with him? To see how happy he is with his friends, to see just how much better he is with them? To see just how much more he belongs with them and not with her? Ridiculous, stupid, idiotic, foolish, worthless.

His hope is absurd and so easily taken advantage of. He's too easy to manipulate. She worries about him. Chiaki is the type to fly to those who need him, and without her, he's sure to run off another cliff.

[ The one thing that Doppo was mentally pleading for upon leaving work late (overtime, always overtime) was a quiet train ride and to be able to crawl in bed immediately. While the former had failed to pan out after boarding onto a car with a particularly loud group of drunks, the only hope he has left is the safety of his bed for a few hours before he has to go through this goddamn routine again.

there are two (2) Hifumis in his room and the one that's IN his bed is definitely a sexy loo-- no. it's a normal body pillow, and Doppo's jaw nearly hits the floor at the sight of it. ]

It's taken him a little while to actually get the spare time necessary to zip off on an interdimensional vacation, but he's a pretty whimsical weirdo at times for all the practicality he tends to meet his missions with. Of course he wouldn't actually let an entire lifetime slip by without even trying to see Lili again, okay!

That doesn't mean his stupid ass shouldn't have prepared better, though. Swords are apparently not masters of disguise because they're superhuman cheaters, so he in all his anachronistic glory has probably cheated his superhuman way into Lili's majestic "jailhouse". Rich people. How'd he find it? MYSTERIES. Technology in 2205 is wild, basically.

In any case, whenever she's without her bodyguards for even a second, there's a sudden flutter of motion nearby! A hand sticks out from around a corner with absolutely pristine polished nails! And waves!! Hm.]

[there is a calendar in Jakurai's office, with the dates - every day - crossed off in neat pen. it's perfectly ordinary, declaring national holidays, religious ones, when the new and full moons are. changing it is one of the strictest things he keeps himself to - one should never lose track of time.

and tonight, he's in the office quite late. usually, this time of the month, he either manages off or simply works around it in a fashion that no one suspects anything. a near religious control of himself is what he needs - meditation, days to relax, and in the worst circumstances, medicine that's stronger than a mic. nothing in his system that would push his mind out of his hands.

but he's stayed too long. everything he needs is at home, and it'll be impossible to get back with his eyes shut. he could call, but that runs the risk of having to explain his own condition. and no one, in all his years, has properly pinpointed what's wrong.

making a quick decision, he locks the front door of the clinic and retires to the back. if he's alone, this'll be easy. painful, but since when was it not? checking his phone for the time, he's going to try to do paperwork until the buzzing under his skin becomes too much. if he's going to claim he simply had too much work to do, it better look convincing after all.

time ticks on, and the full moon rises higher.]
